Christopher Osborne Jr., 45, of Pawling, pleaded guilty in January to aggravated vehicular homicide for causing the crash that killed 63-year-old Jean Riccobon.
Putnam County District Attorney Robert Tendy said the plea was with the consent and support of Mario Riccobon, the spouse of Jean Riccobon.
" In sentencing the defendant, the Court acknowledged the compassion of the decedent’s surviving spouse," Tendy said.
Osbourne was sentenced in Putnam County Court on April 17.
The crash occurred when Osborne, driving a 2003 GMC pickup truck, was traveling northbound on Route 22 in Patterson crossed the double yellow line into the southbound lane and struck the Riccobon's 2015 Subaru Forester head-on, state police said.
Jean Riccobon was pronounced dead at the scene by Transcare Ambulance. Mario Riccobon was transported to Danbury Hospital with serious injuries.
Osborne was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert following the crash and a blood test determined he had been under the influence of morphine at the time of the collision, state police said.
Tendy said Osbourne should be moved to a state prison soon.
